I stopped paying a month ago for exactly the same reasons. I was listening to the same 4 or 5 playlists 90% of the time.

I have not bought any new music instead of spotify yet, but I plan to. Albums on Amazon tend to be £6-10, so 1 or 2 a month is about right.

The only thing I actively miss about not having an iPhone is the Genius. I used it almost exclusively for my music listening needs. Load a few hundred tracks on, select one I want and hit the genius button. It provided so much variety, all of the music is stuff I wanted to listen to, but I did not choose exactly what I heard. It was always new and fresh and surprising when walking home.
